Fake vs Real: ColourPop Cosmetics Super Shock Shadows

Hey lovelies,
Here's another fake vs real post; my way of letting all the anger out after being cheated out of my hard-earned moola. But also, informing my fellow makeup junkies/junkies/enthusiasts of the fakes out there.

I looove ColourPop Shadows more than I love cake! They're errythang! Super-pigmented and bold.
So when I realised that two of the shadows I got were fakes I was less than impressed to put it mildly.
In this post I'm going to compare fake Coconut against the real deal:

Unfortunately as with the lippies, packaging of the fakes is spot on. You can't be absolutely certain just based on packaging. However, once you put the real shadow next to the fake differences are clear to see.

Real (left) vs Fake (right): The font on the fake is slightly smaller and not as bold. When you look at the colour of the shadows you can see that the real coconut is darker than the fake.

When you swatch them you can feel the difference: Colourpop shadows are cream shadows that are buttery soft and highly pigmented. The fake CP shadow is soft but really dry, there's no disguising that its counterfeit; it's pale and got a very powdery finish.

Fake vs Real: ColourPop Cosmetics HIGHBALL Ultra Matte Lip

There's nothing that irks me more than fake brand makeup, especially when its fakes of really affordable brands like ColourPop. I was pretty shocked to find out these exist.
I'decided to write this post, after Belle BlusHH wrote on fake makeup and followed that up with fake vs real comparison posts for some of the Kylie lip kits (click here and here to read them).
So here I am informing you fello makeup lovers out there on how to spot a fake ColourPop  liquid lipstick.
Mind you when I ordered this lipstick I didn't realise it was fake until I swatched it and compared to some of the ColourPop liquid lipsticks in my collection. I felt cheated and super mad because I bought this fake at the price of a real one..I had been superbly dupped.

So I ordered a real Highball CP liquid lipstick from SAMIKA (that's where I usually buy my CP goodies) to compare to what I suspected was a fake.

Packaging

You can't really tell the difference between the 2 tubes based on the packaging. Aside from the scratches on the fake tube straight out of packaging they're pretty identical. I threw away the boxes, but fake CP packaging is very difficult to spot, I didn't notice any differences...Sad!

Appearance & Performance

Once I opened the tube of the fake, that's when I realised it wasn't genuine; it has a really strong sweet chemical scent which is absent from real CP liquid lipsticks. The doe-foot applicator in the fake tube is smaller and doesn't take up much product compared to the real CP.
The swatches are also a good indicator: the real highball was slightly lighter than the fake one but more intense when swatched. The fake swatch is also quite transluscent and doesn't buildup even if you add more product.

We don't get a lot of the popular brands in South Africa like ColourPop, E.L.F and Milani, so our only option in most cases is to order from local re-sellers online or through Social Media platforms like Instagram. If you're really courageuous you can order directly from the company and trust in the South African postal services and pay the tax man customs due on imports.

Face of the Day ft. Kat von D Shade+Light Eye Contour Palette

Here's today's selfie 17.11.2016 featuring a new addition to my collection, the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette from Kat von D Beauty.

It's a neutral palette with browns, reds , white and black. they're all matte shades. The shades are superpigmented and they all show up really well against my skin tone and so buttery soft.
For those who follow me you know I love brights and shimmers. I was worried about whether be able to come up with eyeshadow looks with this palette.
Having used it for the last couple of weeks, I quite like it for neutral eye looks that I pair with bold lip colours.

MakeUp Review: ColourPop Cosmetics

Hey everyone,
As promised, I'm finally doing a review on some of the ColourPop cosmetics products in my collection. Now, I'm all about the eyeshadow; when I discovered ColourPop earlier this year my reaction was "where have you been all my life?"
Colourpop launched  in 2014 and is based in Los Angeles. They're budget-friendly and bunny friendly too.
Their products include eyeshadows, highlighters, blush, liners, liquid lipsticks and lipsticks.
I own at least one product from each of the product categories, but today I'll only be sharing my thoughts on the eyshadows and highlighter. I'll review the lip products at a later stage :-)

I cannot say enough about how much I love these shadows; they come in little white pots and you get 2.1g of product which is standard for single shadow pans. They're cream shadows that come in metallic, ultrametallic, satin, pearl and matte finish. The range of colours available is just amazing; there's a lot of something for everyone.
I am a colour fiend, so most of the shades I own are bold and bright.

How to apply:
Colourpop shadows and highlighters have a cream shadow consistency and are therefore best applied with the fingers. Some people don't like this, so I would suggest that you use a flat synthetic cream shadow brush (it works almost as well as fingers). For those who live in South Africa, I got my cream shadow brush from Edgars for about ZAR80.

Longevity:
I can wear all the shades I've got with and without primer. On average, I wear my makeup for at least 8 hours and I don't experience any creasing or fading.
